Persimmon Cinnamon Smoothie with Algae Oil
I always add healthy fats to my sunrise smoothies, usually either in the the form of coco butter or avocado, so I was super excited when I discovered Thrive Culinary Algae Oil.
I already LOVE algae—as some of you may know, the blue-green algae spirulina is a star ingredient in our Green Dream Superfood + Protein Blend—so I couldn't wait to try algae oil in a smoothie.
A tablespoon of Thrive Algae Oil even has the same amount of monounsaturated fat as one whole avocado (the type of heart healthy fats that are found in almonds and salmon) and imparts a light, delicate flavor that really lets the natural flavors of the other ingredients shine through (perfect for smoothies!).
And beyond being good for our bodies, algae also provides an environmentally friendly source of oil. In the next year, Thrive Algae Oil is set to become one of the most sustainably produced cooking oils, with more oil per acre of land, and a lower carbon and water footprint, than nearly all other oils—which is fantastic since I like green oils for my green smoothies. :)
To add some cholesterol-lowering monounsaturated fats to my raw liquid breakfast, I tossed in a tablespoon of the algae oil to my persimmon cinnamon smoothie for a dreamy powerhouse drink full of protein, fiber, vitamins A, B6, C, E, and potassium!
