SPIRULINA

Spirulina, an ancient, single-cell, blue-green algae (technically classified as a cyanobacteria) is considered one of nature’s most perfect foods.

At 50-70% protein, spirulina ranks as the highest source of protein in the plant kingdom. The algae is able to quickly synthesize concentrated amounts of protein and is in itself a “complete protein,” which means that it’s able to provide all the essential amino acids that our bodies need! Spirulina receives its beautiful bluish tint from phycocyanin, a water soluble antioxidant that helps protect our cells against radiation and provides the blood with more oxygen.Spirulina is a DENSE with nutrients—it's full of fatty acids (including sulfur gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid that promotes healthy skin and joints), polysaccharides, vitamin B-12, and minerals, including iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, selenium, and chromium! ‘Nuf said.

The algae is supportive of healthy brain function and aids in the production of tryptophan, an amino acid that makes serotonin, a critical mood stabilizer! Spirulina is bursting with antioxidants, including zeaxanthin, cryptoxanthin, phycocyanin, betoa-carotein, superoxide dismutase, and lutein. These free-radical fighting molecules bolster the immune system, combat invasive viruses and pathogens, and promote healthy vision and beautiful skin.

Philosophie Green Dream

Like all plants, spirulina contains chlorophyll, a pigment that collects sunlight and transforms it into energy. In addition to this essential job that fuels life on earth, chlorophyll also purifies the blood, cleanses the nervous system and liver of toxins, and is a rich source of iron, which prevents anemia.

I’m a big fan of spirulina and use it in all our Green Dream products.

CAMU CAMU

Acai, Goji berry and Camu Camu are all exotic, enchanting fruits that are extremely high in vitamin C and A, giving them lots of antioxidant superpowers. Antioxidants help prevent aging and disease by combating the effects of oxidation in our body tissues. Camu Camu is a small red berry that grows in the Peruvian jungle, and has the highest vitamin C content of any fruit on the entire planet – over 20 times the C found in two pounds of oranges (wow)!  You’ll find that these superfoods come in many forms including powders, pills and frozen. All can be added to juices, smoothies, or even added to oats or greek yoghurt.

Philosophie Berry Bliss

Our blend, Berry Bliss, is SUPER high in antioxidants, vitamin A, and protein, and also contains camu camu—one of the most abundant sources for vitamin C in the world!

A fruit that’s native to the Peruvian Amazon, Camu Camu is a potent source of vitamin C (one serving contains 1100 percent of your daily required dose, which is more than nine times the amount found in a medium orange) and may be able to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body. Mix it into smoothies, oatmeal or yogurt or even add it to your tea (so long as the water isn’t boiling hot).
